She's an American Girl

A place for everything and everything in its place.

Like most young girls her age in the universe Mischief is in LOVE with her American Girl doll. While her doll isn't an official AG doll (she's getting one for Christmas....shhhhhh don't tell) she has tons innumerable a boatload of the accessories and clothes. So to try and contain the clutter I came up with this pretty sweet idea to re-purpose an old bookcase. Check it out.

In her room Mischief has "corners". Think centers in an elementary school classroom. She has OCD tendencies like her Momma. She has a reading nook (there will be a post on that later), a Barbie corner and her American Girl and Twinn Doll over in a space by her bed. Her doll's name is Lana and she really does love her. She took her to a precious little camp this summer where they went on adventures together, made crafts and generally spent the day with their dolls.
A girl and her doll.
It was during that week of matching outfits I realized how MANY outfits Lana has.......its an embarrassing amount. They were housed in a train case and all wrinkled and not together and that drove Momma crazy. So I had to come up with a solution.......

Enter my local thrift store. I like to wonder around there from time to time looking for little things that just speak to me. I was killing time there one day and ran across this little gem. Sitting alone, unloved, unwanted. It needed a home and I knew just what it would become.

Sad little bookcase, we will love you
This is seriously the easiest re-purpose, re-use, recycle project ever!! All this needed was a good scrub and a shelf removed and it would become the PERFECT doll clothes closet. Complete with shoe and bag shelf.

After a good clean and some work to remove the top so I could get that top shelf off we had the beginnings of a closet for Lana.
facelift time
We chose to leave it white for now because it goes the room decor but that's the great thing about a $10 thrift store find, you can paint it 100 times and it just adds character with every layer.

My next step was to go to Target to get a small tension curtain rod. If you do this be sure to measure and get the right size (read I had to exchange the first one I got bc it was too long and also Mayhem we distracting me)

Then all we did was put it across the top, order some doll clothes hangers from Amazon (literally Amazon Prime is the most amazing idea in the history of things) and VOILA....a beautiful, practical and sanity saving closet for one very special friend.

Ya'll this doll's hair......seriously

The doll corner
I think Lana approves. Oh and ignore her hair that is on the to-do-list of combing out that mess, focus on the closet. I mean isn't it adorable. Mischief just loved it and now Momma does too because everything is neat an organized. Outfits are together, shoes are lined up in pretty little rows and hair bows are easily found. My OCD heart rejoice.

So go now......like right now.....to your local salvage/thrift store and find a sweet little bookcase needing a new purpose. Save a tree, don't add to the overflowing land fills and do the 3Rs. Re-purpose, re-use and recycle. hope you like our little weekend project and until next time.
